An Alzheimer's Disease Research Center
Kathryn Raines (Photography) Kate Raines, working as Plate 3 Studio, is an artist and widely-published commercial photographer who has supported the local performance community by capturing images of artists both on and off stage. To conclude and celebrate our first year of Memory Café programming, Kate will share her work with Memory Café participants—and take photographs of all who would like one.
The Philadelphia Financial Exploitation Prevention Task Force will hold a “Safe Banking & Financial Management Tips for Seniors” themed event for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. This free event, which will will take place at Ralston Wellness Center, is an educational forum featuring a panel of experts who will speak on the subjects of: keeping money and assets safe, making good financial decisions while you age, and finding access to the available resources to do so. In her ongoing exhibition, “Revelations and Transformation, Layers of Memory,” local artist Patricia Moss-Vreeland explores memory “as a meditation on who we are.” On June 20, she’ll invite members of the Penn Memory Center community to do the same. In a free, one-time workshop for Penn Memory Center patients, research participants, and their loved ones, guests will learn to become “creators through the lens of memory,” said Moss-Vreeland, and will be welcome to take home any artwork they create. Please join us for a special Memory Café open to the public at the Penn Museum, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28th. At this free event, friends of the Penn Memory Center are invited to socialize and handle touchable artifacts from the Museum and join a guided gallery tour in either the Syria or Greece exhibits. After the event, guests are invited to attend the museum’s free outdoor summer concert series featuring the West Philadelphia Orchestra, an eclectic ensemble of musicians who play music with Eastern European folk influences and jazz, punk, and blues flair.
