Laura Schankel is the Director of Clinical Research Operations at the Penn Memory Center (PMC), where she provides strategic oversight for the center’s diverse portfolio of NIH, industry, and philanthropically funded clinical research studies. In this role, she collaborates closely with the ADRC Administrative Director to prepare annual progress reports and support training initiatives, including the STAR program. Deeply committed to advancing the clinical research community at Penn, Laura also serves on the executive board of the Society of Penn Clinical Research Professionals, leading as the Board Chair for the 2025–2026 term.
Laura initially joined PMC in 2018 as a clinical research coordinator before advancing to project manager for major NIH-funded research initiatives, including the ABC study. Throughout her time at the center, she has successfully managed and coordinated a wide range of studies, including ATM, LEADS, Pegasus, ADNI3, and TRAILBLAZER-ALZ-2. Prior to joining PMC, Laura conducted research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, focusing on optimized treatment approaches for individuals with comorbid HIV/AIDS and mental illness. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and anthropology from Lehigh University and a master’s degree in psychology from Southern New Hampshire University.
