Dr. Alec Gibson is a clinical fellow in the Division of Cognitive Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology. He received his undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Biological Sciences from Clemson University, after which he earned both his M.D. and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Washington, where his research focused on the role of serotonin receptors in neuronal signaling and behavior. He then completed his internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, during which time he was awarded a UE5 grant from the NIH focused on serotonin signaling in the entorhinal cortex and its role in episodic memory. Dr. Gibson’s clinical and research work focuses on understanding and treating the cognitive and neuropsychiatric symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases, as well as issues related to health equity within neurology.
